Biography

Andrea Simonsen grew up in the Salt Lake Valley and is currently living in Mapleton, Utah with her husband Justin and 2 daughters. Andrea attended Snow College where she received her Associates Degree in 2014. From there she went on to receive her Bachelors of Fine Art from Utah Valley University in April 2016. She has received academic and art scholarships as well as having her art displayed in a number of shows throughout the valley.

Art has always played a huge role in Andrea’s life. Since she was a small child she has had an inclination to draw and paint. It has always been important for her art to demonstrate the beauty and detail of this world that often gets overlooked. Since Andrea believes that life is meant to be explored and observed, she endeavors to capture the simple and unique beauty of ordinary objects in order to allow others to see and feel as she does.

Art is my way of communicating beauty. I look upon common ordinary objects and see perfection. As I re-create these objects I pay close attention to the details and flaws, which make it a unique part of this world. My goal is to take an object and re-create it in a way that allows the viewer to see it in a whole new perspective.

Andrea works primarily in oil paint and has always been intrigued by the fascination of still-lifes. She finds it amusing how a group of objects can tell a story just by the arrangement, light, color and shadow. It's fascinating to her how these simple features can change the entire meaning of the painting. As she works, she not only strives to emphasize the natural beauty that surrounds us, but also connect the viewer to the story that could be told.
